A local Polaris dealer asked Bay Area Audio Visions to upgrade the audio system on a 2016 Polaris Slingshot. The soon-to-be owner asked that the system be clearly audible while he was cruising down the interstate.
Heads Up
The owner requested a double-DIN multimedia head unit for the trike so he could have a backup camera installed. The client wanted to use the camera not just while backing up, but also as a rear-view mirror during regular driving. We mounted a Pioneer AVH-X2800BS in the dash and protected it with a transparent radio cover. The cover provides water protection while still allowing the driver to see the face of the radio. We ran two pairs of interconnects from behind the radio to the amp location to provide a signal for the front speakers and the subwoofer. Having two interconnects allows the driver to adjust the bass level from the radio. We also mounted an I-Beam TE-SSC camera on the rear of the trike just above the license plate-frame mounting bracket.
Marine Speakers
We used a set of SSV Works SS-FKP652 fiberglass speaker pods for the front stage. The pods fit into the tubular framework of the chassis and use existing mounting tabs. We ordered the front speaker enclosures without speakers so we could mount a set of JL Audio MX650 6.5-inch components in them. JL Audio’s marine speakers play nice and loud while sounding great. Their UV-resistant materials will ensure that the speakers continue to look good and perform well for years.
To warm up the sound of the system and give it some real impact and dynamics, we called upon SSV Works again, for an SS-DRSB10 fiberglass enclosure that fits into the storage compartment behind the driver’s seat. We installed a JL Audio 10W1v3 subwoofer in the enclosure and finished it off with the included protective mesh grill.
Power
We chose a JL Audio M400/4 four-channel amplifier for the system. The amp provides 75 watts of power for the front speakers and 200 watts for the subwoofer. We mounted the amp under the passenger seat and concealed all the wiring under the floor panel. The wiring is still accessible for service if need be, but can’t be seen during regular use of the vehicle.
Proper Tuning
As with every system we install here at Bay Area Audio Visions, we set the amplifier gains using our test equipment to ensure maximum performance and reliability.
Clients Impressed With The Slingshot Audio
When the vehicle went back to Cycle Plaza here in Corpus Christi, Texas, for delivery to the client, everyone was stunned at how great it sounded, and how loud it played without distortion.
