When clients come to Bar Area Audio Visions in Corpus Christi, Texas, for speaker upgrades, we have been pointing them in the direction of the Audiofrog brand. Audiofrog has a unique name and, more importantly, their products offer stunning sound quality. From their amazing GB series component speakers to the GS series components and coaxials, there simply aren’t any Audiofrog speakers that haven’t impressed us with their accuracy and detail.
The GS Series
The Audiofrog GS Series includes both 4- and 6-inch component and coaxial speakers, along with a 1-inch tweeter. The component offerings don’t include passive crossover networks, since most applications see the speakers run with dedicated amplifier channels and a digital signal processor. The passive networks are available á la carte. They also offer a two-way 6×8-inch speaker and a three-way 6×9 speaker. The GS693 6×9 may be the best-sounding 6×9 speaker on the market, at any price. The GS Series wraps up with dual 2 and dual 4 ohm subwoofers in 10- and 12-inch sizes.
What makes the GS series sound so good? Audiofrog took no shortcuts when designing these speakers. Items like a flat progressive Nomex spider and Nitrile butadiene rubber surround ensure that cone motion is as linear as possible. The crossover between the woofer and tweeter on the four coaxial speakers uses a 12 dB/octave filter on the tweeter and a 6 dB/octave filter on the woofer. Many companies forego the low-pass filter on the woofer, and, well, you can hear the difference. Installation of Audiofrog speakers is usually simple, thanks to nicely recessed tweeters that don’t protrude into factory grilles.
The GB Series
If GS is a Ferrari, then the GB series is a Koenigsegg. The GB series is sold á la carte as well. You can choose from dual 2 or dual 4 ohm 10- or 12-inch subwoofers for bass. For midrange drivers, the GB series includes 6.5-, 4- and 2.5-inch drivers that set the standard for accuracy, detail and lack of distortion. For tweeters, the GS line includes 1- and 1.5-inch solutions. Every GB woofer and midrange driver includes a copper pole piece cap that reduces distortion. The voice coils feature low inductance milled windings that are flat to ensure excellent magnetic field density. The GB60 includes an aluminum shorting ring to reduce distortion even further.
The installation hardware included with the GB series midrange and tweeters is unmatched at any price. These components make custom installations easier and better-looking.
But How Do They Sound?
When you first hear an Audiofrog speaker, you may be confused. There is a level of clarity and detail that is stunning. We have had many clients tell us that these speakers sound better than products that cost two or three times as much. In fact, we’d be willing to say that even at 10 times the money, they can’t be beaten.
Power Handling is Fun!
There has long been a misconception that premium speakers can’t play loud. The GS and GB speakers put that theory to rest. In fact, many people have called the GB60 6.5-inch midrange the best-sounding 8-inch midbass driver in the industry. Excellent excursion capabilities combined with large diameter voice coils help to ensure that these get loud.
