The owner of this 2015 Corvette came in wanting more out of his Stingray audio system. He knew he had the performance side of the equation, as well as the looks, with the latest edition of Chevrolet’s iconic sports car, but the overall driving experience just wasn’t complete. That’s when he showed up at our door, complaining that the factory Bose system didn’t have enough “highs” and that the bass was extremely lacking over the throaty C7 exhaust.
After careful consideration, we put a plan into place and he was on the road to sonic enjoyment, fulfilling the missing piece of his experience.
Helix DSP, JL Audio Amplifier And Audiofrog Speakers Are A Big Audio Improvement
We kept the factory navigation radio and used a Helix DSP to process all the factory signals to make them not only usable, but much better in terms of being able to control the sound in every way possible. From the DSP, the signal flows to two JL Audio amplifiers to handle all the power duties. A XD700/5 runs the new Audiofrog GB 4″ midrange and 1″ tweeter speakers actively off four channels, with 100 watts per speaker respectively. Both pairs of speakers stay in the same factory locations on the door and dash, but receive an adapter plate to help with mounting.
Subwoofer Enclosure Houses Two JL Audio Subwoofers in This Stingray Audio Upgrade
The sub-channel pushes 300 watts to two JL Audio 10TW3 subwoofers that live in a custom sealed enclosure at the front of the cargo area. A black vinyl trim panel gives the subs the ability to blend with the looks of the interior and help it look like it belongs. We bridged down the second amp – a JL Audio XD400/4 – to two-channel mode to give the new Audiofrog 6″ midbass speakers in the factory locations 200 watts each for some serious punch. We made a composite adapter plate to ensure proper fitment of these speakers. We also applied generous amounts of Hushmat sound-deadening material to help control resonances, as well as create a solid mounting location.
Both amplifiers and DSP are contained in the car’s cargo area under the factory carpet, where the factory Bose amp used to reside.

I have just had a custom system put in my 2017 Grand Sport and while it looks fantastic it only sounds a little better than the factory Bose unit. I am using 3 JL audio amps, three 8″ JL subs, Focal 3way from speakers, Focal rear 5 1/4 coaxials, and a Focal DSP, although the DSP has not been tuned I am generally worried that this system will fail to produce the sound I am used to in past cars. The head unit could be the shortcoming, the type of DSP could be and or the thumb drive’s could be limiting the sound quality.
